Outlines how members of the Radio Teleswitch Service Taskforce will work together and support people with an RTS electricity meter before the service shuts down from June 2025.

Background

The Radio Teleswitch Service uses radio signals to tell some electricity meters to switch between peak and off-peak rates.

The technology that supports RTS meters will be switched off from 30 June 2025. Without an upgrade, the heating and hot water provisions in some homes or businesses that use RTS could be affected.

The RTS Taskforce

The RTS Taskforce is made up of organisations and companies from the energy sector, it includes:

  • Ofgem

  • energy suppliers

  • Smart Energy GB

  • Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)

  • government

The Taskforce is working with consumer groups, housing associations and others to reach the urgent goal of upgrading all RTS meters in England, Scotland and Wales (Great Britain).

This is an example of an RTS electricity meter that has a radio teleswitch in the same box. If you have one of these it might have ‘radio telemeter’ printed on it.
